WHAT IS STRAWBERRY KOI?
Strawberry Koi is the love-child between fashion and photography, with a whole lot of emphasis of vintage inspiration on both parts. Strawberry Koi was originally founded in late 2008 and has since blossomed into something bigger, deeper and more passionate. Now Strawberry Koi is not only limited to fashion-gab and inspirations, but tutorials, photography, online shopping and lookbooks.
SO WHAT DOES THE NAME MEAN?
Strawberries are a symbol of love and passion. Koi may be best known as a carp, but also translates as a passionate form of love in Japanese. I chose the name for our business when it first started in 2008 because of my appreciation for the things I love, but it is also a play on my ethnic heritage.
WHO IS THE OWNER OF STRAWBERRY KOI?
Aya and Thomas smith are the creative minds behind Strawberry Koi. Aya handles all web development and graphic design, while Thomas is our primary photographer. Together we work as a team to make this site its best and expect it to only to grow more into something even better.
WHERE DO YOU SHOP FOR YOUR CLOTHES?
Anywhere and everywhere! From designer brands to Wal-Mart and Dollar stores, I’m not too picky where I shop – but my absolute favorite places would be thrift stores and antique shops.
WHAT TYPE OF CAMERA DO YOU USE?
We have a Nikon D5000 with a fixed 50mm lens and other lenses, as well as a Pentaxx K1000. But the majority of our photos are shot with a Canon Mark ii with a fixed 50mm and a variety of other leses.
WHAT TYPE OF SOFTWARE DO YOU USE?
I use Adobe Photoshop CS5 and Adobe Bridge CS5. I only edit in RAW file types, which gives you more control over colors and lighting. I also use Actions to speed up the editing process, most of which I download for free from DeviantArt.com
DO YOU ACCEPT RETURNS ON VINTAGE ITEMS?
At Strawberry Koi we aim to provide condition and details of vintage items with the best of accuracy, but minor blemishes are to be expected from items that are 20 years old or older. Items are one-of-a-kind and are sold as-is. Please understand that all sales are final when making a purchase unless grossly misrepresented.
HOW DO YOU MAKE YOUR HEADER IMAGES?
I draw and paint with Adobe CS5. I use a combination of eye, downloaded brushes and the pen tool. Portraits are drawn from photographs by hand and colors and details are added layer by layer until I reach the desired effect.
